7 Days of Self-Care Because We All Need "Me" Time

Updated: Dec 21, 2020

It's not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself, and to make your happiness a priority. It's necessary. ~ Mandy Hale

Now is always the best time for self-care. Think of it as investing in you. The small amount of time you invest in your emotional well-being pays off in big ways throughout the day.

And no, you're not being selfish when you do self-care. If you're feeling guilty because you want to take time for yourself, let those thoughts go. We all need time to relax, to recharge.

Today I'm going to share seven self-care activities you can do right now that don't cost a thing.

We Are Responsible for Our Own Self-Care

What's the biggest obstacle you face in taking care of yourself? Many times, it's you. We make time for everyone else, but we don't take time for ourselves.

We need to take responsibility for our self-care because no one else is going to do it for us.

We are so busy going, doing, helping, supporting, listening, and being there for other people, we run out of time for us.

Why do we put ourselves last? For many people, the problem is time. We are so busy going, doing, helping, supporting, listening, and being there for other people, we run out of time for us.

Here's the thing:

We're better prepared to do things for others when we invest time in taking care of ourselves too.

Often that means we need to fit "me" time in between the other responsibilities we have.

Finding that time can be hard. But it's important to find "me" time anyway. It's good for your emotional well-being, and you'll have more mental and physical energy to support the people around you.

Schedule Time to Take Care of You

How do you make time when your schedule is already packed full? The answer is simple:

You let some things go.

Simplify your day by striking things off of your to do list that aren't a priority right now. Delegate when and what you can, and shift around what you can't delegate.

However you do it, do what you need to do to find and make time for you.

7 Days of Self-Care That Don't Cost a Thing

Here are seven easy ways to take care of yourself that will make you feel good without spending money or complicating your day.

Make a commitment to yourself that you'll complete one activity every day. It doesn't matter what order you choose, the more important issue is committing.

Add the activity to your calendar or set a reminder, if you need to. Then, follow through.

Here's the list:

  1. Think about three things you're grateful for right now. Gratitude for what we have pushes out darker thoughts about what we're missing.

  2. Take a one hour break from all screens. Spend one hour physically and mentally present in the real world.

  3. Do one thing just because it makes you happy. Doing happy things makes you feel happy, so give yourself the gift of happiness.

  4. Print an inspiring quote and put it on the bathroom mirror. Words have inspired us for thousands of years. Choose your favorite uplifting quote and enjoy a little inspiration every morning.

  5. Create a playlist of your five favorite songs. Music has a powerful effect on your mood, so indulge in some mood-transforming music.

  6. Take a 15-minute walk outside. Being outside makes us feel better. Start walking and let the fresh air and sunlight soothe your soul.

  7. Take a hot bath by candlelight. There are few things in life more soothing than a tub filled with warm water and the soft glow of candlelight.

Conclusion

Don't feel guilty taking time out of your day for self-care. We should never find ourselves so busy that we can't take a little time out of our day-busy as it may be-take care of ourselves.

Recharge, refresh, and reward yourself over these next seven days. You deserve it.
